Global Locator, Local Locator, and Identifier Split (GLI-Split)
نویسندگان
چکیده
GLI-Split is a new addressing and routing architecture for the Internet. It splits the functionality of current IP addresses into a global locator, a local locator, and an identifier, and encodes them in IPv6 addresses. It implements the locator/identifier split and makes routing in the core of the Internet more scalable. GLI-Split can be incrementally deployed and it is backward-compatible with the IPv6 Internet. It provides more flexibility for edge networks than the addressing and routing architecture of today’s Internet and creates thereby important incentives for early adopters. GLI-Split requires upgraded networking stacks in hosts, but non-upgraded hosts can also be accommodated in GLI-domains and benefit from a reduced set of advantages.

Impact of Identifier-Locator Split Mechanism on DDoS Attacks
The semantic overload of IP address, representing not only the identifiers of nodes but also the locators of nodes, is one of the fundamental reasons for hindering the development of current Internet. Therefore, the identifier-locator split mapping network which separates the two functions has become one of the federating themes for future Internet architecture. However, DDoS attacks are still ...
متن کاملHierarchical Routing Architecture
Some recent research activities from IRTF Routing Research Group (RRG) are to explore a new routing and addressing architecture to meet those challenges that current Internet are facing, especially in routing scalability aspect. The identifier/locator split idea has been widely recognized as an architectural solution to the routing scalability issue. This paper describes a new routing and addre...
متن کاملA Naming Scheme for Identifiers in HiiMap
Many researchers agreed that the split of locator and identifier seems to be a very promising approach. Although this solution addresses the most critical issues in todays Internet architecture, new challenges arise through the mapping system which is necessary to resolve identifiers into the corresponding locators. One interesting question is how the naming of identifiers is done. In this work...
متن کاملLocator/identifier split using the data link layer
The locator/identifier split approach assumes separating functions of a locator (i.e. topology–dependent attachment point address) and identifier (topology-independent unique identifier) currently both served by an IP address. This work is an attempt to redefine semantics of MAC address to make it a pure layer-2 locator instead of a pure globally-unique identifier. Such an exercise might be int...
متن کاملLeveraging Software-Defined Wireless Network (SDWN) by Locator/Identifier Split Scheme for Mobility Management
—To provide the improved Mobility Management (MM) of Software-Defined Mobile Networks (SDWN), the double separation approach is applied to SDWN. A Locator/Identifier split scheme is embedded in the SoftwareDefined Wireless Network (SDWN), which decouples the control plane and the data plane, while a Locator/Identifier split scheme splits the locator from the identifier (e.g., Location/ID Separ...
